If by the year 2050, the average lifespan is 100 years (instead of 70 years), it means that we have 100,000 working hours or 2,500 working weeks and weekends included. What does this bring with it and what kind of speculations does it create?
John Maynard Keynes predicted in the 1930s that by the year 2030, we would only work 15 hours per week. However, the reality is that we work significantly more than 100 years ago - despite the continuous technological revolution and the transition from an industrial society to a knowledge society. Keynes' logic was probably based on the observation that the increase in wealth would provide us with a more comfortable life with less effort. In reality, despite the growth in wealth, we work more, spend more time at work, and retire later... is this the result of progress and does it bring happiness after all?
